Lane Closures : The hard shoulder and lane 1 are closed. Due to: Accident involving a vehicle that has left the carriageway. This bridge will provide a link between the two halves of Upper Battenhall Farm on either side of the carriageway. For work to progress on this bridge, two night closures of the A Crookbarrow Way between Whittington and Norton roundabouts are planned.
These closures will enable installation of the main beams and the concrete deck to be poured for the farm bridge. Then on the west side, final preparations are being made to install a second bridge, the Crookbarrow Way Footbridge, where further closures will be needed. This bridge will be suitable for pedestrians, mobility scooters, bikes and those on horseback. It will provide a vital link between the city centre and the new Worcestershire Parkway Railway Station currently being constructed just off M5 Junction 7 as well as being part of the National Cycle Network.
Worcestershire County Council has reached the final for a national award for their work on extending a Worcester railway bridge. Jon Fraser, Worcestershire County Council Highways, said: "It is fantastic that the efforts by all involved in the work on Battenhall Railway Bridge have been recognised in being nominated for this award.
Dualling of the A Southern Link Road is one of the largest infrastructure projects to be undertaken in the county. The bridge spans one of the busiest stretches of road in the county, just off the M5 motorway, carrying rail services from London into Worcester and Herefordshire. The awards recognise the work of local authorities in delivering their services over the last 12 months.
The Highways Management category celebrates examples of how local authority teams have successfully overcome challenges to deliver an improved highways service for their local population. We are really proud of the SLC team's part in making this such a great success. Please see above: An artists impression of the flyover between Ketch and Powick Roundabout. The dualling will also support economic growth by improving access to and from the M5 and also to the Worcestershire Parkway stati o n which is due to open later this year.
It will include construction of a new 1. Most of the work on this phase will be completed off the main carriageway with minimal need for major traffic management. A new dual carriageway is predicted to halve peak journey times along the A and pave the way for up to 5, new homes. The major project, alongside the existing Carrington Bridge, will provide much needed congestion relief for residents and businesses, while boosting jobs and economic growth in areas like Great Malvern by transforming access to the M5.
This will also improve access to Birmingham International Airport and Worcestershire Parkway Station, creating better journeys for commuters and supporting the creation of more than 6, jobs. The dual carriageway will connect the M5 to the west of Worcestershire and Herefordshire, and provides a congestion-busting bypass to Worcester city centre, set to cut average journey times along the A in both directions during peak hours in the opening year.
The bypass will also help improve air quality, and will also see two new bridges, new cycle and pedestrian routes as well as junction improvements.
We welcome this announcement of funding approval which paves the way for the final phase of the scheme to fully dual the Southern Link Road from the M5 to the Powick Roundabout. We look forward to sharing further details about this final phase which also includes an improved Ketch Viewpoint and underpass in addition to a footbridge over Hams Way in the next couple of weeks. The government funding comes from the Large Local Majors Fund, providing vital infrastructure for economic growth.
Worcestershire County Council and its partners were highly commended at last night's Rail Business Awards. One of 20 major awards presented in front of a packed room of some industry professionals, it was given in recognition of the successful extension of the Battenhall Railway Bridge as part of the A Worcester Southern Link Road dualling scheme. Artist's impression of how the new Ketch Viewpoint and carpark could look once works are complete.
We are nearing the start of Phase 4 of the Southern Link Road scheme which includes the construction of a new river bridge, viaduct and carriageway between Ketch and Powick Roundabouts immediately to the south of the existing carriageway. As part of the enabling works for this project, it is necessary to carry out vegetation clearance including the removal and chipping of trees on the southern side of A Temeside Way which is underway this week.
This will also necessitate the closure of the Ketch Viewpoint Car Park and the viewing platform from the 11th February During this time the car park will be used to collect and recycle the chippings which will then be transferred off-site and used as sustainable biomass.
Ground investigation and temporary removal of the viewing platform will also take place during the car park closure. The viewing platform will be reinstated at a slightly different location later in the programme.
Subsequent to these works, the car park will remain closed for the duration of the main construction works. It is required for a range of other activities which include access to construct the new bridge's eastern abutment, the widening of the A38 approach to the Ketch Roundabout and construction of the new pedestrian and cycle underpass. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times with pedestrians directed along the eastern perimeter of the site unless directed otherwise. Preparation works will begin on Temeside Way, between the Ketch and Powick Roundabouts, at the start of February ahead of the main works starting on the final phase of the Southern Link Road scheme.
The start of this last phase of works is planned for early spring and includes a new river bridge and a viaduct and causeway stretching over 1. Once complete, journey times will be improved and congestion relieved. In early February our contractor is to begin constructing a security fence on the southern side of Temeside Way between the Carrington Bridge and Powick Roundabout. Temporary traffic lights will need to be in place for a lane closure whilst the fence is being installed.
At the same time as the fence installation, vegetation from the southern side of the road on the left as you drive towards the Powick Roundabout from the Ketch will be removed as the new two lane road will be built on this side.
This removal of vegetation is in line with the planning permission for this for this phase of work and needs to be completed before the bird-nesting season. Our Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Economy and Infrastructure, Cllr Ken Pollock, said : "The timing of these works is vital for the main works on this final phase of the scheme starting in spring. I'm looking forward to sharing more details about this final phase, which includes the building of a new Carrington Bridge next to the current bridge, as we get closer to the start date.
To enable the lane closure over a short distance of road, temporary traffic lights will be in operation overnight from 9pm to 5am the following morning, starting on the evening of February 5th, for up to three weeks. Overnight traffic lights will be in operation during the first week will be on Tuesday 5th, Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th February.
During the following weeks the works will continue nightly, starting at 9pm, on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. Significant progress has been made on a number of large infrastructure schemes in Worcestershire in including the Southern Link Road. At the end of May, a 1, tonne railway bridge extension was moved into place between Whittington and Norton Roundabouts.
The dualling on this segment was then opened before Christmas. In the final phase of the scheme begins which will see a new river bridge and 1. Work is also planned to begin to complete the Broomhall Way Footbridge and Crookbarrow Way Bridleway Bridge which will provide access from St Peters to Norton and the new development areas to the south of Broomhall Way. Members of the project team were on hand at the session hosted at St Peter's Baptist Church in Worcester to answer questions about the proposed plans. The bridge, which is being fully funded by developers, is set to provide access from St Peters to Norton and the new development areas to the south of Broomhall Way.
Find out more about the proposed bridge and the summary of the information exercise. Following the closure last night and a review this morning, traffic is now able to use both lanes of the new section of carriageway on the downhill section between Whittington and Norton roundabouts. There will be a further closure this evening 15 November from 9pm until 6am tomorrow morning 16 November to complete the works necessary to enable us to open two lanes uphill very soon, along with the two lanes downhill that we have already opened.
The forward funding and additional funding needed to complete the 3 footbridges was also agreed at Cabinet today — the aim is to complete all three bridges within the next 18 months. Read the full story dualling of the southern link road takes another giant step forward. Work to complete the dualling of the section of the Worcester Southern Link Road between Whittington and Norton roundabouts is progressing well and is ahead of schedule.
Since the railway bridge extension was moved into place earlier this year and the final checks on the bridge were completed, Worcestershire County Council's contractors have been constructing two completely new west bound lanes that will run under the bridge. This work has included completion of earthworks to make way for the new road, relocation of electricity poles, laying foundations and installing of a new drainage system and kerbs….
All of which needed to be completed before the road surfacing could begin. To enable the next phase of works, a number of lane restrictions and overnight closures are needed to carry out surfacing and road marking works ahead of opening this stretch of road to traffic. Next week 22, 23 and 24 October there will be off-peak lane closures on Crookbarrow Way between Whittington and Norton roundabouts, going downhill, between the hours of 9.
On the evenings of 29 October to 2 November , Crookbarrow Way will be closed to downhill traffic only from Whittington to Norton overnight from 9pm to 6am the following morning.
