In total, we operate seven pipeline systems that gather petroleum products from producing sites in Alberta and Saskatchewan for delivery to market hubs primarily at Hardisty and Edmonton, Alberta. Oil sands pipelines include the Cold Lake, Corridor and Polaris systems, with transportation services provided to shippers pursuant to long-term cost-of-service contracts that have a defined annual capital fee and recovery of substantially all operating costs.
Transportation services are generally provided under cost-of-service and fee-based contracts. Midstream marketing activities are completed by the marketing segment for fixed service fees. In addition, Inter Pipeline operates bulk liquid storage terminals in Denmark and Sweden, branded as Inter Terminals Nordics, which includes approximately 19 million barrels of storage capacity across eight terminals. This business provides build bulk, break bulk and custom blending services for oil, chemical and biofuel products through a combination of cost-of-service and fee-based arrangements.
Consisting of the Cold Lake, Corridor and Polaris pipeline systems, oil sands has over 3, km of pipeline and 3. The Cold Lake pipeline system is the largest transporter of Cold Lake area bitumen production.
This blended product is then shipped by the Cold Lake pipeline system to major crude oil terminalling hubs in Edmonton and Hardisty, Alberta. The Polaris pipeline system is a diluent pipeline system that transports diluent from the Edmonton area to the Athabasca and Cold Lake areas of Alberta and is one of the major diluent transportation systems in Alberta. Our conventional oil pipelines include the Bow River, Central Alberta and Mid-Saskatchewan pipeline systems, which combined they span approximately 3, kilometres.
The Bow River pipeline system is a crude oil gathering and transmission pipeline system which gathers oil from established producing fields in southeastern Alberta and transports it to Hardisty, Alberta, as well as Milk River, Alberta.
Quality Assurance programs track and ensure consistent laboratory performance. Newer analytical techniques and instrumentation may result in changes in data over time, such as method detection limits and accredited testing parameters. Users of the dataset should exercise caution when comparing water quality results over time. Additionally, as data quality standards have improved over time, users may notice formatting inconsistencies throughout the dataset.
Results are uploaded daily after laboratory review and approval for release. More recent data should be used with caution as, although infrequent, results may change based on potentially required reanalysis. Any result change will be reflected in the dataset upon subsequent data upload.
