This website consolidates checks of the Nurse Aide Registry and other systems. Verifying a nurse aide's status through the Employability Status Check Search is the equivalent of using the NAR and is considered in compliance with all applicable federal regulations and state licensure laws.
To check the status of a medication aide visit the Employability Status Check Search website and enter the medication aide's name or social security number.
Beginning August 1, , HHSC will conduct fingerprint based criminal history checks on medication aides who apply to renew their permit. Prior to renewal, the medication aide will be notified of the fingerprinting requirement via mail or email. If the medication aide attempts to renew prior to their renewal month, the renewal will not be processed until fingerprinting is completed. A person permitted by Texas Health and Suman Services HHS to administer medications to residents in: Nursing facilities, Intermediate care facilities for individuals with an intellectual disability or related conditions Correctional institutions Assisted living personal care facilities.
You must successfully complete the medication aide training program, which includes: hours of classroom instruction and training 20 hours of returned skills demonstration laboratory 10 hours of clinical experience, including clinical observation and skills demonstration under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse in a facility, and 10 hours in a return skills demonstration laboratory.
People who are attending or have attended an accredited school of nursing and who aren't licensed to practice professional or vocational nursing meet the training requirement if they: Attended the nursing school no earlier than January 1 of the year immediately preceding the year of application for a permit Successfully completed courses at the nursing school that cover the HHS curriculum for a medication aide training program The nursing school's administrator or other authorized individual certifies in writing that the courses have been completed.
